David Bourne
Division Director |
The Teamsters Airline Division
represents over 40,000 workers in the aviation industry in every craft and
class. We have the strongest collective bargaining agreements in the country.
Our goal is to provide our membership with the best representation in the
industry and to give all workers in the aviation industry a voice at their job.
Teamsters have represented
aviation workers since the 1950s and are continuing to grow to help airline
workers.

ENERGY CRISIS
Teamsters Support
Bill That Tackles
High Fuel Costs
Teamsters
Airline Division Director Capt. David
Bourne stood with federal lawmakers
to urge quick action on
legislation that would eliminate
manipulation and excessive speculation
in the petroleum futures market,
benefiting struggling families hard hit
by skyrocketing fuel costs.
OUTSOURCING
The Airline Division is working
hard to protect jobs in the aviation industry. Current carrier outsourcing
practices present serious safety and homeland security concerns and the Teamster
Airline Division is front and center in the fight to ensure adequate oversight
and responsible practices. We are working on many fronts in this effort. We
are active on Capitol Hill, are working in partnership with powerful business
travel organizations, have exposed bad practices on major media, have held
public policy meetings and a summit and have extensively researched and reported
on the issues.
TEAMSTERS AVIATION MECHANICS COALITION
The Teamsters represent 18,000
aviation mechanics and related workers. To better serve their interests we have
formed the Teamsters Aviation Mechanics Coalition. The coalition is led by a
steering committee of mechanics from the 14 Teamster
carriers. The coalition
has played a leading role in exposing and fighting unsafe outsourcing practices, organizing mechanics and related into the Teamsters, lobbying on issues of
importance and more.
VICTORY AT UNITED AIRLINES
Congratulations and welcome to
our new Teamster brothers and sisters at UAL. On May 31, 2008, more than
9,000 aviation mechanics at UAL voted to join the Teamsters Union. UAL’s
mechanics worked hard for two years to become Teamsters and overcame huge
obstacles. Their efforts paid off with a remarkable 78 percent voter turnout that
sent a strong message to the company that the UAL mechanics want change.
